[SVVS Lunchtime Meeting - Plough &
Furrow, Smallfield - May 2008] ::
One of the new venues which nobody seemed to be able to get
to. Very olde-worldey beamed pub with a historic well. Seems it
was the original St. Margaret's well from which the local area
Mugswell is named. Mentioned in the Doomsday Book but dates to a
Celtic/Anglo Saxon settlement. Pretty poor turnout but it must be
said that the weather did not help. Grim low black thunder clouds
and it absolutely deluged cats and elephants all morning. However
by mid day, - blue skies and warm. |

[SVVS Lunchtime Meeting - Wellhouse Inn, Coulsdon - April 2008] ::
This is a new date and time for this venue. It has been
bought forward and to lunchtime, but as it is located very much at
the eastern edge of our catchment area, it does seem that it falls
off the radar to many of our Members. Nice refurbished pub serving
meals. Notwithstanding, not a bad turnout of locals with a preponderance
of classics. It was interesting to note that colour-coding the
SVVS badge to the car colour has caught on in a big way.
Interesting Morgan and a Traction joined us. |

:: [ SVVS
Dinner - Russ Hill Hotel, Charlwood - February
2008 ] ::
The Annual SVVS Dinner was held at the Russ Hill Hotel
and was again a great success having been attended by over 121
Members. This was a new venue for the Society and the general
impression is that it was every bit as good as the previous years.
The highlights of the evening were a brief talk by Fraser Clayton
on the history of the Society, this being our 40th Birthday, and
an amusing talk by Anne Chance who at 64 decided to learn to ride
horses, so as to go on a cattle drive in Montana. |

:: [ New Year's Day Lunchtime -
Beehive, Woodhatch -
January 2008 ] ::
Our first meeting of the year took place again at the Beehive
which had been extensively modernised since the last visit. The
weather was wet and cold and the turnout of proper cars was quite
poor. Because of the weather many others came in moderns and hid
them round the back in embarrassment. Kicking of tyres in the
carpark was minimal. We were
also responsible for the consumption of most of the pub's cooked
lunches as many members took the opportunity to give wives a day off. |
